We see that Trump verbally flatters Putin in every way, calls him his friend, yet gradually strips away his pawns. Trump is not simply destroying Russia's allies, but also China's allies. Venezuela and Iran were China's main allies along with Russia, - this was stated by Teimuraz Papaskiri, representative of the "Coalition for Change," during his appearance on PalitraNews' program "Day's Newsroom," while discussing developments in Iran.
According to him, Iran was a very serious support base for Russia and provided significant assistance to Moscow during the war with Ukraine.
"In principle, these processes had been prepared for months, and especially in recent weeks it became clear that a strike from Israel and the U.S. was practically inevitable. Now it may be a bit difficult to predict exactly how events will develop, but the fact is that the goal in this situation is different from what it was last June, when the sole goal was to destroy the main facilities of Iran's nuclear program where Iran's nuclear weapons were being created. Now the conversation is no longer about preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons; now, at a minimum, the agenda includes a change of government or regime change. In reality, what we see is that Trump has no desire for this to be a protracted war, because protracted military actions are already full-scale war, and in that case he needs Congress's permission. Simply bombing - the American public accepts this in a different way, even if it leads to certain casualties - but ground operations cannot be started by the U.S. without Congress's permission. Starting ground operations would be very heavy for Trump, given that there are midterm elections in November. Therefore, he needs to achieve results as quickly and effectively as possible. In this regard, we see that on the very first day a major result was achieved when Iran's military or simply governing structure - in the person of the spiritual leader and de facto ruler of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - was destroyed. Practically within a few hours, a major blow was dealt. The fact is that, despite the fact that in part of Iran's population Khamenei's death was perceived as a declaration of war against Muslims, and we also saw mourning footage, at least more than two-thirds of Iran's population actually greeted Khamenei's death with enthusiasm and delight. From this it can be said that the Iranian population thinks differently. In reality, at this moment, Iran's current government holds its positions solely through military force and does not express the opinion of its own people. It is difficult to predict, but in conditions of continued airstrikes, of course, the population will increasingly turn against the government - unlike in June.
What we saw in early January, when tens of thousands of Iranians were killed by the government's actions, this government and Iran's population stand on different sides. Khamenei turned Iran into a terrorist state that was a conduit of terrorism throughout the region, not only on its own territory and in neighboring countries. Trump even said that I preempted them, otherwise they tried to kill me twice. In this situation, of course, we see that Trump verbally flatters Putin in every way, calls him his friend, and gradually strips away his pawns. In reality, Trump flatters Putin because he wants to use Russia against China. This simply won't work. In this case, Trump is not simply destroying Russia's allies, but also China's allies. Venezuela and Iran were China's main allies along with Russia. This is a very heavy blow to China in this situation, but an even heavier blow to Russia. Unlike Venezuela, from which Russia derived little benefit, Iran was a very serious support base for it and provided serious assistance during the war with Ukraine," - stated Papaskiri.
Regarding other issues, including the ongoing processes in Georgia itself, the politician also spoke about opposition unity and confirmed that opposition forces are considering a visit to the U.S. as an alternative to "Georgian Dream."
"We see that in today's world, the U.S. position significantly determines processes. Everyone understands this, including in Georgia. 'Georgian Dream' also understands this, which has been trying in every way during this period to conduct negotiations with the U.S. and somehow restore the relations that, thanks to 'Georgian Dream's' policy, ended up in such bad shape - the strategic partnership agreement is suspended, and we essentially have difficult relations with the U.S.; I couldn't say they are good. This is conditioned by 'Georgian Dream's' policy and visits to Iran and close alliance with Iran. Naturally, our opposition forces also understand the situation perfectly. This is exactly why opposition unity is necessary. Of course, work was underway [on opposition forces traveling to the U.S. together]. Previously, one of the hindering factors was precisely the lack of opposition unity. The U.S. will not talk to different parties; there needs to be a unified representative that the U.S. considers an alternative. Naturally, the U.S. does not like 'Georgian Dream,' but if it does not see an alternative, then the question may indeed arise that on that side there is such chaos that no one can be talked to... " - stated Papaskiri.
Furthermore, he commented on the recent statement by the political council of "Georgian Dream" regarding relations with the U.S.
"The current U.S. administration has no value-based alignment whatsoever with 'Georgian Dream.' The opposition has far more value-based alignment with the U.S. than 'Georgian Dream' does, because the opposition supports free elections, supports freedom of speech, supports equal rights, while 'Georgian Dream' is not interested in any of this; on the contrary, it does everything against it and is engaged in hypocrisy. From beginning to end, 'Georgian Dream' is trying to adapt and present itself to the U.S. administration as if it is a symbol of family solidity. From this it can be said that opposition unity is troubling for them. The U.S. sees that there is a clearly expressed anti-American force in power, which is in power today only because it rigged the elections and which supports Iran and China," - stated Papaskiri.
In response to the question of whether opposition forces, as an alternative to "Georgian Dream," should first be seen by the West or by the Georgian people, Papaskiri answered that "the Georgian people also want the opposition to show unity."
"This is exactly why unity is necessary - so that in the case of unity, through all polls and conversations with all people, it is easy to establish what the Georgian people want. The Georgian people want the opposition to show unity, and if the opposition demonstrates this unity, accordingly, the Georgian people will also see an alternative, and the West will also see an alternative. For the first time in history we are in a situation where Europe is begging us to be on our side and will help in every way. For the first time we have a government that is anti-European in orientation.
As for 'Georgian Dream's' recent visits to the U.S. and also the parliamentary delegation's visit to the U.S., after the visits of Darsalia and Mdinaradze, suddenly the Georgian government lit the tower in Iran's colors, and in addition to that, the same Darsalia attended the celebratory event organized by the Iranian Embassy on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Georgian people's arrival in Iran. In reality, it was about Shah Abbas's deportation of Georgians. Darsalia attended this event.
We all know that this event in the U.S. was organized by one specific congressman. How representative these meetings will be remains to be seen. This congressman is distinguished by pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian sentiments, and apparently on this basis, representatives of 'Georgian Dream' managed to find common ground with him," - stated Papaskiri.
