Mamuka Katsitadze: There is an organic unification of several parties on the surface - in reality, we are getting a restored "National Movement" - as for "Lelo's" decision, the main charm of elections lies in the freedom of choice

"I think this is an organic unification of several parties, and in reality, we are getting a restored 'National Movement.' As for 'Lelo's' decision, I believe that on the opposition field, we should give the voters the opportunity to choose," said Mamuka Katsitadze, a member of the political council of "Lelo - For a Strong Georgia."

According to him, the opposition must be able to consolidate the opposition voters in the upcoming elections without losses.

"I think this is an organic unification of several parties, and in reality, we are getting a restored 'National Movement.' This is probably good in the sense that it is natural and organic.

As for why 'Lelo' should not be part of one unified entity — I believe the main charm of elections is in the freedom of choice, and on the opposition field, we should also give voters the opportunity to choose. Some people really dislike the 'National Movement,' some might really dislike 'Lelo,' or others — we should not lose such voters for each other's sake. Collectively, the opposition must be able to consolidate opposition voters in the upcoming elections without losses. Pragmatically, this type of decision is also correct. We discussed this and made the decision in a fully analyzed and carefully weighed manner," Katsitadze stated.

For information: A part of the opposition parties is holding a meeting today to reach a final agreement. According to existing information, the opposition parties will present the details of the agreement reached during consultations ongoing since December to the public after the meeting.

A few days ago, "For a Strong Georgia - Lelo" released a statement saying they will continue to position themselves as an independent political entity. Specifically, the statement notes that a strong opposition is built through competitive diversity, not forced uniformity; however, "For a Strong Georgia - Lelo" is ready for coordination and cooperation on specific issues related to common national interests and in effective action formats.
