The "Alliance of Opposition Parties" is releasing a joint statement concerning the principles of the agreement.
The document states that the purpose of the agreement is to end Bidzina Ivanishvili’s “autocratic regime,” restore Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic course, and ensure democratic governance, security, and the well-being of citizens.
The statement notes that the alliance is based on several key principles. Among them is “unity without uniformity,” which means that the parties within the alliance will retain their own ideological identities while acting according to a unified protest and communication strategy.
According to their statement, the goal is to demonstrate - both domestically to the Georgian people and internationally to Georgia’s partners - that they represent a “democratic alternative to Ivanishvili’s oligarchic and autocratic regime.”
According to the document, the participating parties also agree on a code of conduct that defines the rules of interaction among them and establishes accountability.
“Today, the Alliance of Democratic Opposition Parties of Georgia agrees on a common strategy and joint rules of action and declares that through our collective efforts we will liberate Georgia from Bidzina Ivanishvili’s autocratic regime, restore the country’s Euro-Atlantic course, and ensure democratic governance, the security of the country, and the well-being of the Georgian people.
Our agreement is based on the following principles:
Unity without uniformity: The founding parties of the alliance retain their ideological identities but agree on unified protest actions and a common communication strategy. Our task is to show both the Georgian people inside the country and Georgia’s allies outside that we represent a democratic alternative to Ivanishvili’s oligarchic and autocratic regime.
Democratic alternative: The parties agree that only a democratic alternative oriented toward the interests of citizens can defeat an autocratic regime. We consider it crucially important that decision-making within the alliance be based on the principle of equality among participants and the free expression of will, free from external influences.
Political and societal consensus: We aim to achieve broad political and societal consensus through wide public involvement, so that through free and fair elections we defeat Ivanishvili’s regime and form a democratic coalition government that will carry out the necessary reforms.
The parties participating in the agreement agree on a code of conduct that regulates the rules of interaction among the signatory entities and establishes responsibility for violations thereof.
The opposition alliance will fight to the end - until the release of political prisoners and victory in free and fair elections,” the statement of the “Alliance of Opposition” reads.
