These parties were united by the idea of boycott and the so-called peaceful overthrow of October 4. All this only strengthened the Dream, said Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of parliament from the Gakharia for Georgia party, responding to the creation of the Opposition Alliance.
According to him, people decide, first of all, who will be the alternative to the Dream and who the real opposition is in this country.
“These parties were united by the idea of boycott and the so-called peaceful overthrow of October 4. All this only strengthened the Dream. These parties, directly or indirectly, intentionally or by mistake, did the work of the Dream, therefore, leaving aside their "Natsi" past and radical past, we have nothing common with these parties. We have an independent path, strategy, tactics, which, first of all, of course, is aimed at weakening the authoritarian regime of the Dream, and such irresponsible actions that took place on October 4, which began first with a boycott campaign, followed by a provocation of a "peaceful overthrow", of course, were planned by the Dream and these parties did not have the insight or ability not to participate in this provocation and not to strengthen the Dream. Among them, Salome Zurabishvili was one of those who supported the boycott. When I talk about boycott, of course, I mean all of them here, and wasn’t Salome Zurabishvili a supporter of the boycott? And wasn’t she one of those who served all 64 municipal governments to Dream on a platter? Doesn’t she have political responsibility for this? Even on October 4, before she actually saw the action that took place near the presidential palace, she was calling on people to go to Rustaveli. People decide, first of all, who will be the alternative to the Dream and who the real opposition is in this country,” Sharashidze noted.
Some of the opposition parties announced the creation of the Opposition Alliance yesterday. The document was signed by the Coalition for Change, United National Movement, Strategy Builder, Federalists, National Democratic Party, European Georgia and Freedom Square.
The signatory opposition forces agree on a common strategy and joint rules of action and declare that, through joint efforts, they will free Georgia from Bidzina Ivanishvili’s “autocratic regime”, restore the country’s Euro-Atlantic course and ensure democratic governance.
The agreement is based on several principles, including unity without uniformity. In particular, according to the document, the founding parties of the alliance maintain their ideological identity, but agree on a unified protest action and communication strategy.
The parties participating in the agreement also agree on a code of conduct that regulates the rules of relations between the signatory entities and establishes responsibility for their violation.
The Opposition Alliance pledges to “fight to the end - until the release of political prisoners and victory in free, fair elections.”
