“I am convinced that no one doubts that Boris Johnson has not even the most elementary idea about the television companies ‘Imedi’ and ‘PostV’ and their journalistic activities; nevertheless, his absurd statement serves a specific purpose. No one has any illusion that the appearance of Boris Johnson, a heavyweight agent of the ‘deep state’ in the Georgian context, is coincidental,” stated the leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kirtskhalia, during a plenary session of Parliament.
According to him, the former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is quite justly called a “warmonger.”
“After the absurd and categorically unacceptable attack by the British government on free media, which was followed by sanctions against the television company ‘Imedi’ and ‘PostV,’ neither from Britain nor from their ambassador in Georgia has the public heard even one real argument to this day that would justify this shameful step. Moreover, far from hearing any argument as proof of this absurdity, on the contrary, today the former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson declares that his country’s Foreign Ministry, based on in-depth analysis, decided that ‘Imedi’ and ‘PostV’ were spreading disinformation about Ukraine. It is obvious at first glance that no in-depth analysis underlies the attack on free Georgian media. Especially considering the shameful formulation according to which Georgian television stations were allegedly destabilizing Ukraine and threatening its territorial integrity. I am convinced that no one doubts that Boris Johnson has not even the most elementary idea about these television companies and their journalistic activities; nevertheless, his absurd statement serves a specific purpose. Let me remind you that we are talking about a politician who is quite justly called a ‘warmonger.’ According to the official statement of Ukrainian officials, specifically Mr. Arakhamia, Boris Johnson was the person who, after the Istanbul negotiations, visited Kyiv and urged the Ukrainians not to sign anything and simply to fight. Yet, several years after these events, according to Johnson himself, from 2016 to 2022 there was never even the minimal chance of Ukraine joining NATO, because any such proposal would have immediately provoked a veto from many states. As cynical as it may be, let me remind you that Ukraine’s refusal of NATO was one of the main issues in the peace talks disrupted by Johnson. Against this background, of course, no one has any illusion that the appearance of Boris Johnson, a heavyweight agent of the ‘deep state’ in the Georgian context, is coincidental. Today, a country facing the greatest existential crisis, which in fact has no economic growth, a migrant problem, and increased crime that poses the greatest threat, is lecturing Georgia on what is right…
As a responsible government, we will firmly continue the fight for our sovereignty and for peace, and we once again emphatically declare that we do not intend to retreat and will not kneel before any enemy of Georgia’s statehood,” Kirtskhalia stated.
