Joe Wilson - Georgian Dream has handed over Georgia’s infrastructure to the Chinese Communist Party

The Georgian Dream has handed over Georgia’s infrastructure to the Chinese Communist Party and sold the country into debt slavery, US Congressman Joe Wilson, co-chair of the Helsinki Commission, said at the commission hearing on “Responding to Chinese Infiltration and Coercion in Europe.”

He said the tactics used by each dictatorship are becoming increasingly similar and sophisticated, and are “alarmingly facilitated by technology and innovation.”

“This textbook is fully reflected in the Republic of Georgia. The dictatorship of Bidzina Ivanishvili and his Georgian Dream has imprisoned almost all opposition leaders, ignoring the Georgian people who want freedom and prosperity, not China’s “debt trap diplomacy” and the Russian oligarchy,” the congressman noted.

He said that Russia has long been Bidzina Ivanishvili’s base of operations and source of wealth, and after Georgian Dream “seized power in 2024 through rigged elections, it is China that has been providing them with much of the surveillance technology, propaganda channels, and financial support needed to suppress the will of the pro-American Georgian people.”

Wilson emphasized the importance of the middle ground for the United States, saying that Georgian Dream has handed over infrastructure to China.

"President Donald Trump has rightly prioritized Central Asia, the Middle Corridor, to secure and diversify our supply chains. The Georgian Dream has essentially sold Georgia's infrastructure to the Chinese Communist Party and sold the country into debt slavery. America's access to the Middle Corridor is essentially controlled by the Chinese Communist Party," Wilson noted.
