European Commission on the suspension of visa-free regime for diplomatic passport holders: The Commission can decide to extend these measures to all Georgian citizens - correcting the situation depends on the Georgian authorities

The suspension of the visa-free regime for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports, as decided by the European Commission, enters into force today and will remain in effect for 12 months, until March 6, 2027.

In addition, as the European Commission clarifies, if the Georgian authorities do not resolve issues related to governance and the rule of law, the Commission can extend the suspension for up to 24 months.

“The Commission can also decide to extend the measure to all Georgian citizens. During this time, it is up to the Georgian authorities to redress the situation. The Commission strongly encourages Georgian authorities to engage constructively in this process,” - the information states.
