Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We express concern over the legislative package recently adopted by the Georgian Parliament

Latvia expresses concern over the legislative package recently adopted by the Georgian Parliament, which further restricts the activities of civil society and independent media, as well as foreign funding, — this is stated in a declaration disseminated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.

“We continue to firmly support Georgia's civil society,” — the statement reads.

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also comments on the European Commission's decision to suspend visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports.

“The EU's decision to suspend visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic and service passports is a consequence of the country's backsliding in terms of democracy and fundamental rights. Latvia adopted this decision at the national level as early as June 2025,” — states the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
