New criminal case launched against Bacho Akhalaia

A new criminal case has been opened against former Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia.

The State Security Service told InterpressNews that an investigation has been launched under Article 317 of the Criminal Code, which refers to calling for overthrow.

Specifically, the case concerns Bacho Akhalaia’s statement in court – “Ivanishvili must be overthrown.”

More specifically, Akhalaia's wife yesterday posted a video recording on Facebook and wrote that the recording is from Bacho Akhalaia's closed trial - "a forbidden introductory speech", although "the recording came out of the court".

"I believe that Ivanishvili must be overthrown, overthrown by all possible means. If force is needed, overthrown by force, together with Ivanishvili, Russian tentacles must be overthrown, as widely as possible in Georgia. This is the only solution, this is the only way to end this hell, in which Russia has been keeping us for more than two hundred years. We will overthrow Ivanishvili, we will definitely overthrow him.

I would like to ask you, dear, not to believe any politician who says that there will be no more revenge. Fair revenge will be what will bring to these people victory against the oppressor", - Akhalaia stated at the trial.

For information, Bacho Akhalaia is accused in the October 4 case, he is charged with a crime under Article 225, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which includes organizing and leading group violence, which provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.
