According to the former Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, although he does not agree with the accusations and believes that he did not commit a crime, a week ago he applied to the Prosecutor's Office with a request to conclude a plea agreement.
Mikautadze made the relevant statement during his closing statement at the trial.
According to him, he is ready to "admit a non-existent crime and compensate for non-existent damage so that the case can be concluded quickly."
According to Mikautadze, the Prosecutor's Office previously stated that he had not applied for a plea agreement, which is why he officially applied to the agency.
"What I have been telling you for so long leaves the only, unalternative conclusion - so many inaccuracies in accounting and testimony, especially since all this could not have happened on its own, this is the result of specific assignments, requests from friends and jealousy of specific individuals that I mentioned above. You cannot and will not succeed in imposing the negativity caused by the attempt to create lies and deliberate disinformation on the public, I believe, and I do hope for it.
Despite such accusations, such damage, even though I do not know who I have caused and what I have caused, I do not know who I have harmed, but by the grace of God everything will go well and soon a man will be born, another Mikautadze, which is why I applied to the prosecutor's office a week ago with a request to conclude a plea bargain, - said Mikautadze.
He appealed to the court with a request to make a "correct, reasonable and pragmatic decision" so that "a righteous person is not oppressed."
At the end of his closing remarks, he thanked his family, friends, lawyers, and prison staff for their support.
"Finally, I would like to thank my family: my wife, children, parents. My brother and his family, my daughters-in-law, my ex-wife, father-in-law and mother-in-law, my lawyers, my many friends and fans. I would like to thank all the employees of the detention center and penitentiary institution," said Romeo Mikautadze.
