Irakli Kobakhidze: It is a joint task of the state and the private sector to expand the assortment of export products and establish a presence in new, high-purchasing-power international markets

It is a joint task of the state and the private sector to expand the assortment of export products and establish a presence in new, high-purchasing-power international markets—this was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at the presentation of the Agricultural Development Index.

As the head of government noted, market diversification is the main guarantee of stability and long-term competitiveness.

"The main challenges remain land fragmentation, scarcity of technologies, and low productivity. On the path to overcoming these challenges, the state is the main partner of business. The subsidized agro-credit program has already yielded tangible results—since 2018, the sector's total output has nearly doubled; however, there is still a lot of work ahead.

Export direction should be highlighted separately. Today, foreign sales amount to 4.5 billion GEL. This is a significant figure, but the reality is that exports are mainly based on a few products. It is a joint task of the state and the private sector to expand the assortment of export products and establish a presence in new, high-purchasing-power international markets. Market diversification is the main guarantee of our stability and long-term competitiveness. I am confident that today's discussion on these and other issues will translate into concrete steps and will help both the government and business in making even more effective decisions," the Prime Minister stated.
