However, this decision must be made by the Synod, which will also set the burial date.
“I want to once again express my condolences to the faithful; this is a great loss and a very deep sorrow.
Today, the Synod will convene at 14:00, according to church procedure. The Synod will discuss the burial details. After the meeting, the transfer will take place to the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Regarding the Patriarch’s wish to be buried in Sioni, this information exists, but the Synod must make the final decision. The date will also be determined by the Synod,” Archpriest Andria Jaghamidze said.
For reference, the Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia, His Holiness Ilia II, passed away at the age of 93. A period of national mourning was declared in Georgia following his death.
