Mikheil Kavelashvili expressed his condolences on social media regarding the passing of His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia, highlighting the profound impact of his half-century of leadership.
“The death of His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II, has caused immense grief in the hearts of each of us. His invaluable contribution to strengthening and building up our Mother Church will never be forgotten. His half-century of epochal service to the homeland and the nation remains an unmatched example of loyalty, while his wisdom and love have left a deep mark in all our hearts.
Throughout all this time, he selflessly cared for Georgia and became a firm support for our people. His wisdom and paternal love will be greatly missed by everyone.
Once again, I offer my condolences on this immense loss to all of Georgia and wish the Catholicos-Patriarch’s family, the clergy, and all believers the Lord’s guidance and spiritual strength in these very difficult moments,” Kavelashvili wrote.
For reference, His Holiness Ilia II passed away at the age of 93, and a period of national mourning has been declared in Georgia.
