Elene Khoshtaria cannot be extorted for either Shushanik or Tinatin — if she is a mother of four, what was she thinking when doing this? Didn’t she think about her own children?! — this is what Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, told journalists.
Makhashvili said that, for him, Elene Khoshtaria is “an ordinary hooligan.”
"Personally, Elene Khoshtaria does not represent an important figure for me. She is one of the ordinary hooligans, a political extremist who, of her own free will and intentionally, committed a crime. What happened is the restoration of justice; there is nothing particularly special here. Neither Shushanik nor Tinatin can be extorted from her, no matter how many children she has. On the contrary, my personal question is this — if she is a mother of four, what was she thinking when she did this? Didn’t she think about her own children? Didn’t she think about her own family? Therefore, everyone, including foreigners who make statements, should not call on the government — first and foremost, they should address this person and others involved in political extremism to refrain as much as possible from this type of violent political extremism and, on the contrary, engage in constructive social and political life," Makhashvili said.
For reference, the politician Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the “Droa” party, who was accused of damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner, was found guilty by the court. The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court judge Giorgi Arevadze. Under Arevadze’s ruling, Elene Khoshtaria was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. Accordingly, Khoshtaria will leave the penitentiary in one year.
