Shalva Papuashvili - Khoshtaria and people like her are the Helsinki Commission's personal prisoners - they are incited to commit crimes, thrown in jail, and then used to attack the government

They want to capitalize on this to some extent, for which they organized all this, for which they brought Elene Khoshtaria to justice, for which they left her in prison and did not make her pay bail, and for which they have people in custody, so that they can then use these statements to attack the Georgian government, - the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists, assessing the statement of the Helsinki Commission that the Georgian Dream is using the court as a weapon to silence all those who pose a challenge to their power.

In Papuashvili's opinion, "Georgians are being used and incited to commit crimes."

“It is clear that they want to capitalize on this to some extent, for which they organized all this; for which they brought Elene Khoshtaria to court for a crime; for which they kept her in prison and did not make her pay bail; for which they have people in general in prison, so that they can then use these statements to attack the Georgian government. Once again, Khoshtaria and similar people are personal prisoners of the Helsinki Commission and similar [organizations]...

They incite them to commit crimes so that they can then organize discussions, resolutions, statements, etc. They use Georgians, and they themselves do not lose anything from this and do not suffer any harm. Again, they use our citizens, pushing them to commit crimes so that they can later make various statements,” said Shalva Papuashvili.

For information, the Helsinki Commission has issued a statement stating that “Elene Khoshtaria and other opposition leaders face even harsher sentences.”

Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the Droa opposition party, was sentenced to one year and six months in prison after being found guilty of “property damage” for writing “Russian Dream” on Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze’s campaign banner last September.

Khoshtaria and other opposition leaders now face the possibility of even harsher sentences – from 7 to 15 years in prison – for alleged “crimes against the state,” the Helsinki Commission said in a statement.
