Police arrest several people on drug charges

The employees of the Police Department of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained citizens of the Republic of Moldova: S.K., born in 1981, and A.V., born in 1984, on charges of illegal purchase and storage of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs and facilitation of illegal sale.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police also seized materials necessary for packaging narcotic drugs.

“As a result of a search of the defendants’ personal vehicle and temporary residence, as well as during the conducted investigative experiment, law enforcement officers seized an especially large quantity of the narcotic drug “Methadone” prepared for sale from the places indicated by them as evidence.

The investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 260-4 of the Criminal Code, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment,” reads the information.

In addition, according to the agency, law enforcement officers have detained two individuals for the illegal import of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs into Georgia.

“Employees of the Central Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Adjara Police Department, together with employees of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, prevented the illegal import of a large and particularly large amounts of narcotic drugs into Georgia.

The police detained Z.Ch., born in 1983, with a previous conviction, at the Kutaisi International Airport, and S.D., a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, born in 2001, at the Sarpi customs checkpoint.

"During the search of the accused, law enforcement officers seized a particularly large amount of various types of drugs as evidence, including "cocaine", "heroin" and "methadone".

The investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment," the agency said in a statement.
