Elene Khoshtaria: The process of integration with NATO has been institutionally killed by ‘Georgian Dream’ - Georgia has reverted to the level of the 1990s

I state this with full responsibility (I have worked on this for 8 years). Under changes in government and conditions of European integration, we will fully make up for the losses,” writes the imprisoned Elene Khoshtaria, leader of “Droa,” in a letter sent from prison.

Khoshtaria notes that the collapse of the policy of NATO integration is reflected in the Alliance’s report.

“The process of integration with NATO has been institutionally killed by ‘Georgian Dream.’ It took years to obtain ‘aspirant’ status and for Georgia to be recognized as a potential member, which was already documented by 2012. Even inertia alone would have been enough to prevent a collapse.

The Alliance’s report reflects this collapse.

Partnership relations, including in the defense sector, were maintained by NATO with the entire post-Soviet space since the 1990s; it was called PFP – Partnership For Peace.

Central Asian countries also had and continue to have partnerships.

Georgia has reverted to the level of the 1990s. But I state this with full responsibility (I have worked on this for 8 years): under changes in government and conditions of European integration, we will fully make up for the losses and return to the path of membership, especially considering the new geopolitical situation of the Black Sea and South Caucasus.

The Alliance must immediately begin communication with NATO to establish this alternative vision.

Until the end!”— from the letter Elene Khoshtaria sent from prison.
