“The investigator interacted with him because Gela Udzilauri’s guilt was confirmed at least three times. As for Sigua, I have no idea what connection he had, and in fact, he has no connection with Udzilauri,” said prosecutor Levan Vepkhvadze after the court hearing. He was commenting on Udzilauri’s testimony, in which Udzilauri claimed that a senior police officer, Sigua, and an investigator had offered him certain benefits in exchange for testifying against the Mikadze brothers.
According to the prosecutor, Udzilauri’s testimony today contradicts all of his previous statements, and he did not tell the truth during the hearing.
“In all prior interrogations, convicted Gela Udzilauri never provided information close to the truth. I had no expectation that on April 1, when he was questioned at the defense’s initiative in court, he would say anything truthful. I am genuinely curious how far this man’s imagination can go. With every interrogation, new versions emerge. In one version he lost the weapon, in another he threw it away, and in a third he does not know where it is. I am honestly curious how far his imagination can go.
When discussing the organization of the murder, it is natural that questions arise about the crime. Today we heard from Gela Udzilauri that he had no connection with the Mikadze brothers. This is a man who worked for three years as a driver for Giorgi Jokhadze, who is a close friend of the Mikadze brothers. Additionally, he received transfers from David Mikadze and claims he doesn’t know who paid him, who he had connections with, and so on. We are expected to believe something completely absurd from this person. What he says contradicts himself, all of his previous statements, and he provides explanations for why his statements were incorrect. Today he even dared to claim that he was pressured to name specific individuals.
We have gone through several court hearings in multiple stages, and today he claimed that someone forced him in the past — and only now, during the Mikadze brothers’ trial, he remembered to say it.
It is a fact, and we can say with certainty, that Gela Udzilauri has not provided any truthful or even remotely truthful information.
The investigator interacted with him because his guilt was confirmed at least three times. As for Sigua, I have no knowledge of any connection and he has no interaction with Gela Udzilauri, nor should he. At the initial stage, Udzilauri named only the Mikadze brothers; later, Jokhadze also appeared in his statements. Even the judge asked which version should be considered final,” Vepkhvadze said.
