I interpreted both statements of the Iranian ambassador as threatening, - one of the leaders of the National Movement, Khatia Dekanoidze, stated on Palitranews.
According to Dekanoidze, the tone of the Iranian embassy was especially noteworthy after the US Secretary of State held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Georgia.
According to her, both the previous and current statements contained threatening elements and demands.
"I interpreted both statements of the Iranian ambassador as threatening. Two days ago, when the US Secretary of State made a call to the Prime Minister of the Georgian Dream, the tone of the Iranian embassy after that was unpleasant. Considering that the Georgian Dream loudly speaks about having a policy with everyone that is in line with Georgia's national interests, this statement was not at all in line with our national interests. Today's statement is also a fact, it is a threat and a demand. The Iranian ambassador explains that the Foreign Minister did not summon him for the threat he published in the statement the day before yesterday, but rather requested a meeting himself.
Now the deliberately undermining positions of Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream are very important for the stability, security and peace of Georgia. That is, we have no partners, we have remained defenseless, we do not have a single friend of international importance who would ensure Georgia's security," Dekanoidze said.
Dekanoidze also focused on the role of the United States and noted that the strong involvement of the United States in the region is important for Georgia's security. According to her, despite the current situation, the US interest in Georgia is still high.
However, according to Dekanoidze, the Georgian government has become unreliable for Western partners, which weakens the country's international positions.
"America's great interest in the region of Georgia is very important. We must remember that the US is conducting a military operation with Iran, so of course, any Iranian influence is a threat to it. We saw how Irakli Kobakhidze stood with the leaders of Hezbollah. The US knows all this, so it is not surprising that this is a threat to it. A strong America in the region and Georgia as an American partner would certainly be important from a security perspective. Unfortunately, Ivanishvili killed this. I am glad that despite this, American interests in Georgia are strong,” Dekanoidze said.
Dekanoidze states that the current Georgian government is no longer perceived as a reliable partner by the United States.
“When the United States knows that there is a person in Georgia who has the entire country in his grasp – a person who promotes the growth of Russian influence, a person who has stopped the country’s integration process into the European Union, attacked US ambassadors, such unreliable partners are a threat to America,” Dekanoidze said.
