Persons accused of fraudulently embezzling funds intended for soup kitchens plead guilty - one of them granted GEL 100,000 bail, and 4 others - GEL 50,000 bail each

The court has imposed a preventive measure of detention on 5 individuals accused of dishonestly providing services to beneficiaries of soup kitchens and fraudulently embezzling a large amount of state funds.

The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Meia Melkadze. More specifically, the director of Aladashvili & Co LLC, Rezo Aladashvili, was granted GEL 100,000 bail, while another of his employees and the directors of 3 telecommunications companies were granted GEL 50,000 bail each.

The individuals will be released after they post their bail.

At today's trial, the prosecution requested the use of the most severe preventive measure of detention for the detainees, however, after the defendants admitted the crime, expressed their readiness to compensate for the damage and cooperate with the investigation, the prosecutor's office took these circumstances into account and agreed to the bail.

At the trial, both Rezo Aladashvili and the other persons who were directors of the subcontractor companies admitted their guilt.

For information, the State Security Service arrested 5 persons on charges of fraudulently embezzling a large amount of state funds and aiding in the fraudulent embezzlement of a large amount of state funds.

They were charged under Article 180, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” and Article 25, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of Article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 6 to 9 years.

According to the State Security Service, the director of LLC “Aladashvili & co”, together with LLC “Gid”, LLC “Bade” and LLC “Alioni”, in 2024, 2025, 2026, served up to 14,451 beneficiaries in bad faith and improperly fulfilled their obligations. In particular, by forging product acceptance and delivery certificates, they fraudulently appropriated a large amount of money belonging to the state - 3,529,000 GEL - from the 18,909,104 GEL received from the gamgeoba.
