The so-called Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, responded to our yesterday's statement regarding the Anaklia port, where he presented unqualified calculations and juggling with financial calculations - in the 2026 budget, in November, the funding for the port project was reduced by 100 million. Today, he is offering us a new incomprehensible calculation and is trying to mislead the citizens of Georgia by juggling with numbers and propaganda, - the Secretary General of Lelo-Strong Georgia, Irakli Kupradze, stated at the briefing.
As Kuprava stated, Georgian Dream and Ivanishvili have no readiness or desire to build the Anaklia port.
“The so-called Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, responded to our yesterday's statement regarding the Anaklia port, where he presented unqualified calculations and juggling with financial calculations. This is once again a lie and misleading our citizens.
In fact, Ivanishvili's government is not doing anything to develop the Anaklia port. In the 2026 budget, which was determined in advance, in November they reduced the funding for the Anaklia port project by 100 million. Today, he is offering us a new incomprehensible calculation and is trying to mislead the citizens of Georgia by juggling with numbers, propaganda and lies. This indicates that the Georgian Dream and Ivanishvili had incorrect calculations from the very beginning.
This is incompetence and, most importantly, an exposure of the Georgian Dream, which wants nothing to do with the completion of the Anaklia port.
The Anaklia port was supposed to receive its first ships in 2020. Today is 2026 and Irakli Kobakhidze is still talking, lying, as if they are interested in the construction of the Anaklia port, while a few months ago, they deducted 100 million GEL from the previously determined budget document, which is public, and reduced the construction of the Anaklia port.
Yesterday, Strong Georgia-Lelo made a statement and laid out a specific plan for how the Anaklia project should develop. The Anaklia deep-sea port project, like the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, is the only large-scale idea that is fully consistent with the strategic priorities declared by the United States and President Trump’s administration.
In order to maintain real peace in Georgia, the Anaklia deep-sea port should become the number one strategic facility and project in the state interests of Georgia. The leading role should be given to American and transatlantic financial institutions. The Anaklia port should be declared a strategic object. There should be no state interests of Russia or China in the project and the port. All agreements of the Anaklia project should be public so that the history of fake Arab investments is not repeated.
After the Armenian-Azerbaijani agreement, which ended the conflict ongoing in the Transcaucasus, which lasted for decades, a very important international transit route appeared, which was called the “Trump Road”. This route should not bypass Georgia. In fact, we have only one choice. In order for the most important international transit route passing through Armenia-Azerbaijan to connect with Georgia, the Anaklia port must be built urgently.
Let us once again remind ourselves, and among them, the citizens of Georgia, that in 2020 the Anaklia port in Georgia was supposed to receive the first ships. This year is 2026, and in this situation we see that the Anaklia port is still abandoned and neglected. The Georgian Dream and Ivanishvili have no willingness or desire to build the Anaklia port. The Anaklia port will definitely be built, and our coalition - Strong Georgia-Lelo is and will be the main supporter of the Anaklia port and the project," said Irakli Kupradze.
For information, at today's government session, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the government reviewed the agreement regarding the Anaklia port and as a result, the cost of the project was reduced by more than 25%, by 52.5 million dollars. As Kobakhidze noted, the construction process will be actively resumed in the coming days.
