Maka Botchorishvili - When the territories of Georgia are occupied by Russia, there can be no talk of railway traffic or restoration of diplomatic relations - it is also irrelevant to talk about the issue of neutrality

In the context of the fact that the territories of Georgia are occupied by the Russian Federation, there can be no talk of restoring railway traffic or diplomatic relations - and it is also irrelevant to talk about the issue of neutrality - this statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili in response to the For Georgia faction in Parliament.

According to Botchorishvili, existing international mechanisms and instruments are always used to inform and respond to the international community regarding Russia’s illegal actions.

“As for the question of signing the Non-Use of Force Treaty, Georgia’s position is clear, consistent and unwavering. It is based on the fundamental norms and principles of international law, including the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act.

The confirmation and fulfillment of Russia’s commitment to the non-use of force is one of the important issues of the Geneva international negotiations, which the Georgian side actively and consistently puts on the agenda within each round.

In general, the Georgian government has a declared policy of peaceful resolution of the conflict, which it follows and implements, and at the same time, everything is done to maintain the mentioned issue on the international agenda.

In this context, it should also be noted that existing international mechanisms and instruments are always used to inform and respond to the international community regarding Russia’s illegal actions.

Specifically, on the issue of the Sokhumi airport, a corresponding note was sent in February to the International Civil Aviation Organization, stating that flights carried out in occupied Abkhazia without the permission of the Georgian government were illegal and were carried out in violation of international law.

In general, the occupation itself is an illegal action, a violation of international norms, and accordingly, everything that is carried out within its framework is assessed as illegal actions,” said Maka Botchorishvili.
