Irakli Kupradze - The opposition has the strength to defeat Ivanishvili through elections, but the efforts of Lelo will not be enough, this requires mobilization - Ivanishvili is not invincible

According to Irakli Kupradze, Secretary General of Lelo-Strong Georgia, the opposition has the resources to defeat the Georgian Dream through elections, but this requires the right strategy and mobilization.

As Kupradze noted in the Free Studio program of Palitranews, elections are the only correct and peaceful way to change the government.

“Doing politics in Hungary has not been easy. Viktor Orbán, as an authoritarian, has eliminated parties from the political field for 16 years. He has destroyed them financially and politically, and critical media. Doing politics in Hungary has never been easy.

We say that defeating Ivanishvili through elections is the only right way to change Ivanishvili’s government. Why do we say this? This country needs peace, stability, and prosperity, and all of this is related to the change of government,” said Kupradze.

Speaking about the opposition spectrum, Kupradze assessed the boycott policy as a mistake and stated that instilling distrust in the elections is in the interests of the government.

“Not a single opposition party can teach Lelo how to make smart decisions. Lelo is the party that the Georgian Dream has included in the list of banned parties. Lelo is the party whose leaders were in prison and have been charged with new charges (Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze). Today we have three political prisoners. In this situation, we know firsthand what repression by the Georgian Dream means. This cannot make us refuse what is right. It is right - achieving fair elections and releasing political prisoners.

In this situation, stirring up suspicion that there are no elections, Bidzina Ivanishvili is invincible - is a useful thing for Bidzina Ivanishvili. In this situation, how could they do what they did - giving the capital to Ivanishvili and Kaladze whose rating is 20%. We were talking about a joint candidate. In order to understand what to do in the future, we need to look back at yesterday and see what mistakes we made. The mistake was boycott, the loss of faith in the elections in society,” said Kupradze.

According to Kupradze, although Lelo will play an important role in defeating the Georgian Dream in this process, the efforts of only one party will not be enough and broad opposition unity and coordination are needed.

“The opposition has the strength to defeat Ivanishvili through elections. Lelo will be the main and decisive in this fight, however, Lelo’s efforts will not be enough, just as they were not enough in 2025. They may not be enough tomorrow either, and this requires mobilization, making a strategically correct decision that elections are the right, peaceful, correct state path,” said Kupradze.
