Levan Makhashvili: We had a very interesting and constructive discussion with the Weimar Triangle delegation - we discussed all the issues that concern both the Georgian side and the European Union

“We had a very interesting, constructive discussion with the delegation of the Weimar Triangle countries — we discussed all the issues that concern both the Georgian side and the European Union,” said the Chair of Parliament’s European Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili, after meeting with the delegation.

According to him, there is a shared understanding between the sides that constructive dialogue is necessary.

“It was a very interesting, constructive, and detailed discussion. We reviewed all the issues that concern both the Georgian side and the European Union, specifically these states: Poland, Germany, and France. They presented their views on where they see the problems and what possible solutions might exist. Of course, we also shared where we see the problems and how we envision resolving them. Naturally, there is a common understanding that constructive dialogue is necessary. No matter how complex the issues are, dialogue is essential in order to find common solutions on matters that are important to both sides,” Makhashvili said.

The ruling majority MP noted that the Georgian side raised a question during the meeting regarding information about Georgia published on the German Foreign Ministry’s website, where Salome Zurabishvili is still listed as President.

According to Makhashvili, the German side cited a technical issue as the reason. The MP expressed hope that the problem would be resolved in the near future.

“I mentioned as one of the issues that it is unclear to us how, for approximately two years, the German side has been unable to correct this flaw, regardless of the reason. They cited a technical error, but I pointed out that for Germany, it should not be a technical problem to fix such a simple issue over a period of two years. We did not hear any explanation other than a technical error. Hopefully, if this truly is a technical issue, it will be resolved in the near future,” Makhashvili stated.

For the record, members of the Weimar Triangle delegation currently visiting Georgia include: Niklas Wagner, Director of the Political Department for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office; Brice Roquefeuil, Director of the Continental Europe Department at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs; and MichaƂ Giergion, Deputy Director of the Eastern Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Department at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation also met with the Head of the Government Administration, Levan Zhorzholiani. Meetings were also held with opposition parties and representatives of the NGO sector.
