Levan Samushia: We have started working - I am confident that motivation toward elections will increase - the example of Hungary has revived belief - we see some people changing their position, and “better late than never!

“What Magyar did is nothing new for Lelo. We have always said that a change of government is possible through elections and, in all cases, must happen through elections,” said one of the leaders of Lelo – Strong Georgia, Levan Samushia.

As he stated on PalitraNews’ program Resume, it is now evident that some critics of elections are changing their positions. In his assessment, this is a positive development and, as he put it, “better late than never.”

“The only and non-alternative way to change the government is through elections. Power must be changed only through elections. We have always said this. You may recall the attacks that followed when Lelo decided to participate in the local self-government elections. Now we see some of those same people shifting their stance, and I would say: better late than never!” Samushia said.

According to him, opposition forces still have more work to do.

“There should have been maximum activity. The opposition has more to do. When Kaladze had a 20% rating and 80% of the public was opposition-minded, there was an intense campaign to discourage citizens from going to the polls. We acknowledge and say that the boycott prevailed, but what result did it bring? Has anything changed today?” Samushia said.

Samushia noted that Lelo – Strong Georgia continues to work actively and considers its strategy to be correct. He emphasized that it is important that other opposition groups are beginning to share this approach.

“We are doing our maximum; we have started working. We are doing what we believe is right. It is good that others have started to recognize this. I am confident that motivation toward elections will increase. The example of Hungary has revived belief among our citizens that it is possible to defeat the government by going to the polls,” Samushia said.
