Shalva Papuashvili - There is a desire to have direct contact with our colleagues through direct meetings, through our visits to the capitals - Brussels has become an obstacle to relations with the EU member states

Unfortunately, we see that Brussels has become an obstacle to relations with EU member states and through its filter, incorrect information about Georgia is being spread, - the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, stated in a conversation with journalists in Istanbul.

As Shalva Papuashvili noted, bilateral communication is important.

“When we had meetings with representatives of the parliaments of the EU member states, our main task was to have direct communication with our colleagues, and not through Brussels.

Unfortunately, we see that Brussels has become an obstacle to relations with the EU member states, and through its filter, incorrect information is being spread about Georgia.

We see that the disinformation that we hear from Brussels about Georgia is spreading in the EU member states. Therefore, bilateral communication is important.

I think we had very meaningful meetings. There is a desire to have direct contact with our colleagues through direct meetings, through our visits to the capitals.

Second: During the meetings with representatives of Asian countries, everyone noted the crisis they are experiencing due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. They have to make various decisions in order to save energy, since oil supplies are limited, including remote work, etc.

It is visible how the conflict that has arisen in one region affects other regions. Fortunately, through the actions of the Georgian government, we see that these crises are bypassing us. Whether it is the war ongoing in Ukraine or the crisis that we are observing in the Middle East, we see that while for other countries this is a prerequisite for economic collapse, in the case of Georgia we have a very good indicator of economic growth. This is the right approach of our government,” Papuashvili notes.

He also said that regional cooperation is also important.

“I had meetings with the chairmen of the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Turkey, and I also have a meeting planned with the chairman of the parliament of Armenia,” Papuashvili noted.
