Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze says that regarding children with Duchenne syndrome, he fully understands the emotions of patients and parents, and that “everything possible” will be done on the issue, along with an explanation of future plans.
At the same time, as Sarjveladze stated, it is also necessary to “expose the hypocrisy of those who try to gain political dividends from the emotions of patients and their family members.”
“I would like to comment on the issue of Duchenne syndrome, which has become a subject of heightened public concern in recent days. This is a very difficult topic to discuss. Duchenne syndrome is indeed a severe diagnosis, and I would not want any incorrect impressions to be formed regarding attitudes and positions.
I fully understand the emotions experienced by patients, their parents, family members, and supporters. I feel obligated to clarify several details and provide the public with comprehensive information on this issue—covering every fact, clinical conclusion, and circumstance. At the same time, this is also necessary to expose the hypocrisy of those who seek to gain political dividends from the emotions of patients and their families,” the minister said.
Mikheil Sarjveladze also noted that the ministry will have additional communication on this matter.
“This is not a simple issue that can be easily discussed, including through media broadcasts. It is a highly complex and sensitive topic. However, believe me, silence in recent days does not mean a lack of empathy. On the contrary, we are deeply saddened for these children. Of course, we will do everything possible and will also explain what we are planning and what has already been done regarding this issue,” the Health Minister stated, according to the Ministry of Health.
