The date [for the Holy Synod session] has not yet been announced - there is a discussion about whether to hold the Holy Synod, before 40 days since the death of the Patriarch or after 40 days, - Protopresbyter, Father Giorgi Zviadadze told journalists at the Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral.

According to him, when the date for the Synod session is announced, the date for the expanded assembly will also be announced.

As the Protopresbyter noted, “There is complete unity and mutual respect in the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church.”

“Everyone is imbued with the immeasurable merits of His Holiness Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia and his great contribution. With the greatest fear of God, modesty, great respect and love for the Patriarch, all the hierarchs are trying to meticulously approach all issues that may arise both in connection with the holding of the Holy Synod and the expanded assembly. Such unity in the Holy Synod is truly appreciated, and it is natural that such unity, mutual respect also allow all issues - related to age, education, nomination of candidates - to be resolved by consensus, mutual respect, great respect for the Church and in the manner prescribed by the canonical norms of church law.
