Ana Buchukuri on “Georgian Dream’s” third lawsuit against the BBC: Shalva Papuashvili is surprised because they couldn’t find Levan Murusidze in the UK judicial system - where law is truly law and democracy is real, "Dream" is powerless

“If participating in elections has no point, then what does - overthrow? This so-called ‘overthrow’ scenario is written in the State Security Service and ‘Georgian Dream’ offices, while infiltrated individuals in the opposition or ‘useful idiots’ helped ‘Dream’ implement a fake overthrow scenario. In fact, the boycott supporters were helping ‘Dream’ destroy the already damaged idea of elections,” said Ana Buchukuri, a member of the party “For Georgia,” on the PalitraNews program “Day's Newsroom.”

According to Buchukuri, their political party will not stand together with the “opposition alliance” at the rally planned for May 26.

She also spoke about mistakes within the opposition, noting that leaving “Georgian Dream” alone in parliament after the 2024 elections was an error. She added that the opposition lost to “Dream’s” propaganda, largely due to its own missteps.

Buchukuri argued that for the opposition to win elections, there must be a significant gap in support between it and “Georgian Dream,” and that her party is focused on attracting voters away from the ruling party.

“I’ve heard many opposition leaders say there is no point in talking to ‘Georgian Dream’ voters. Then how do they plan to defeat Ivanishvili? If someone locks themselves in their own bubble, they cannot develop. Unfortunately, a large part of the opposition has fallen into this trap. You cannot understand reality through a Facebook bubble - there is a huge gap between online sentiment and real life.

There must be a significant difference between supporters of the opposition and ‘Dream.’ This primarily means working with ‘Dream’s’ voters, and we have the ability and experience to talk to these people. Today, ‘Dream’ has more supporters than it deserves. It’s clear their support is not 54%, but they also do not deserve even 30–35%.

Today, ‘Dream’ stands, in part, on the weakness of the opposition, and the opposition bears significant responsibility for this,” Buchukuri said.

She wished success to the opposition alliance but questioned their strategy, asking what they were doing before launching regional outreach on May 10 and what their plan would be afterward.

“Instead of being a unifying day, May 26 is being used to divide society even further. This level of polarization is already enough, and anyone contributing to it - whether from the government or opposition - is unacceptable to me,” she added.

According to Buchukuri, “Georgian Dream,” while attempting to claim exclusivity over Christianity and Orthodox values, governs the country through psychological pressure.

“In today’s turbulent global environment, instead of strengthening partnerships, ‘Dream’ is deliberately isolating the country, making it more vulnerable. We are consciously losing friends. In these conditions, an isolated Georgia faces even greater risks. Twenty percent of the country is occupied, and unfortunately, we have the neighbor that we have.

Even five years ago, Georgia was a respected partner in the region - a developing democracy with challenges, but still a model state. Look where we are now…

‘Dream’ is trying to condition society to accept that no matter what, everything is in their hands: they can mistreat you, beat you without punishing anyone, act unlawfully, and then decide at their discretion whether to pardon you or not, cancel fines or not. This is a form of psychological terror,” Buchukuri said, also criticizing fines imposed on citizens for minor infractions such as standing on sidewalks.

Commenting on “Georgian Dream’s” lawsuit against the BBC, Buchukuri described it as propaganda-driven and said that such efforts reveal the ruling party’s weakness.

Shalva Papuashvili is surprised because they couldn’t find Levan Murusidze in the UK judicial system. ‘Dream’ is powerless where there is real justice and rule of law.

Their hysterical reaction shows their weakness. In systems where law is truly law, the constitution is respected, and democracy functions properly, systems like ‘Dream’ are completely powerless.

Most likely, this lawsuit is intended for propaganda purposes. What ‘Dream’ does best is spread false narratives, and this lawsuit may serve that goal,” Buchukuri stated.
