Mamuka Mdinaradze - The change was decided almost 8 months ago, although it was not agreed in advance that I would leave the position in 7 or 8 months - in the end, we returned to the previous plan and I will coordinate the security system

The change was planned almost eight months ago, - the head of the State Security Service, Mamuka Mdinaradze, said while talking about the personnel changes made in the government, according to which he was nominated for the position of State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies.

As Mdinaradze noted, it was previously planned that he would temporarily head the State Security Service, however, the exact time when he would change his position was not determined in advance.

According to him, due to specific circumstances, taking into account the team's request, he agreed to head the State Security Service.

“This change was decided almost eight months ago. I will not hide it from you and today we can already say this. There were a number of circumstances, due to which I temporarily took up that position at the request or call or recommendation of the political leadership and the team, and after a certain period of time… it was already planned in advance, one might say so, although it was not agreed in advance, that I would leave this position in seven or eight months. There was such a need then and at that time we did not have a 100% decision on how it would develop, whether it would be with this dynamic or not, and in the end, by the decision of the Prime Minister, I will coordinate the security system.

Over the last day since this change was announced, I have seen skeptics on the one hand… When the supporters of the Georgian Dream congratulated me, they [skeptics] said that they I had retired. In principle, I can tell you that this is not a leader position, but I will definitely have the function of a coordinator between law enforcement agencies, and I will try to further strengthen the positive dynamics of law enforcement agencies that we have all managed to achieve together in recent months. This will be corruption, this will be the fight against terrorism, this will be the anti-drug campaign, the fight against organized crime, etc., - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.

He also answered the question of why this decision was necessary today:

“There are many cases when a law enforcement officer is accused of something and must be defended to the end. Over the past few months, this emotion has intensified. In this case, as a supervisor, I have, have had and will always have an even stronger instinct to protect my employee and any law enforcement officer, but when a clear crime is committed, in this case you have to be just as strict to prevent it on the other hand as you are strict towards other lawbreakers and offenders.

We can recall the footage, including [the events of 2024], which has become topical these days. We have thought a lot about these topics, we have talked a lot, and if we don’t hide it from you, we are also very nervous when a law enforcement officer kicks a young man who has fallen to the ground in the face. No matter who he is - I'm not saying it now, I've said it many times, I've spoken exactly like that, but now, my competence, both current and future, gives me the opportunity to say more boldly that we can be more interested in such issues, I promise in the future that such prevention will be carried out without fail, and I can also be interested in the past, when I have my competence and enter into my authority as State Minister and Vice Prime Minister for the Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies," said Mamuka Mdinaradze.
