Tamar Chergoleishvili on Mikheil Saakashvili: He will still have to respect the agreement - otherwise, he cannot stay with us!

“We told [the British Ambassador] what the ‘Alliance’ is about—that it is not only against the regime, but also a project for the democratic renewal of the opposition. This means there should be less focus on political maneuvering and the instincts of authoritarian leaders, and more focus on what truly concerns people,” Tamar Chergoleishvili, one of the leaders of the “Opposition Alliance,” told journalists after a meeting with British Ambassador Gareth Ward.

She said they were satisfied with the meeting.

“We had a meeting [with the British Ambassador], we introduced the ‘Alliance’ and its plans. We also heard from him what is happening from their side. We are satisfied. We explained what the ‘Alliance’ is about—that it is not only directed against the regime, but is a project for the democratic renewal of the opposition, which means less focus on political maneuvering and authoritarian leaders’ instincts, and more focus on what concerns people. We discussed this, and it was a very clear and encouraging message for our British democratic partner,” Chergoleishvili said.

She also spoke about the situation within the “Opposition Alliance” and relations with the United National Movement, stating that agreements must be respected by all.

“Everyone must respect the agreement. [Mikheil Saakashvili] should not remain silent; he will still have to respect the agreement, otherwise he cannot stay with us,” Chergoleishvili added.
