Direct flights on the Shanghai-Tbilisi route will begin on July 15. The decision was made at the meeting between the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the heads of the China Eastern Airlines, which was held within the framework of Mariam Kvrivishvili's visit to the People's Republic of China.

The information was released by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

According to them, China Eastern Airlines will operate regular flights on the Shanghai-Tbilisi-Shanghai air route with a frequency of 3 times a week.

“Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the special importance of Georgia’s direct air connection with China’s main financial center and noted that this decision will contribute to the further development of business and economic ties between the two countries.

As the Minister stated, the launch of direct flights in the Tbilisi-Shanghai direction is another demonstration of the high level of political and economic ties between the countries. According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, this decision will strengthen people-to-people relations, economic ties, the Georgian tourism industry and generate additional income.

The meeting focused on Georgia’s status as an official partner country at one of Asia’s most prestigious and large-scale tourism exhibitions, ITB China 2026, which will be held in Shanghai on May 26-28 of this year and will significantly contribute to the popularization of Georgia’s tourism potential,” the report says.
