The Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church will select three patriarchal candidates today.
According to the Patriarchate’s Public Relations Service, the session of the Holy Synod will begin on April 28 at 12:00 at the Patriarchate of Georgia.
“At this session, three patriarchal candidates will be selected,” the Patriarchate said in a statement published on its official Facebook page.
The issue of electing a Patriarch arose after the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, passed away on March 17. Ilia II was buried on March 22 at the Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral.
