Over the past two months, prices for energy resources have risen significantly and have even reached a critical level, while prior to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, Georgia had one of the lowest prices in the region, said Shota Berekashvili, chair of the temporary parliamentary commission studying prices, during a commission session where representatives of oil companies are currently being heard.

Berekashvili also noted that, compared to European countries, the increase in fuel prices in Georgia remains significantly lower.

“In the recent period, prices for energy resources have increased significantly, which is largely due to international factors, in particular the tension in the Strait of Hormuz. Accordingly, over the past two months, energy prices have risen substantially and have even reached a critical level.

Given this, meetings with the sector are important. It is also clear to us that prior to this crisis, Georgia had one of the lowest prices in the region, especially compared to European countries. The price increase in Georgia is significantly lower than in other European countries,” Berekashvili said at the beginning of the temporary parliamentary commission session.
