Shalva Papuashvili terms joint statement of Great Britain and Finland as “crocodile tears”

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, responds to the joint opinion of the co-chairs of the Media Freedom Coalition - Great Britain and Finland - on World Press Freedom Day and evaluates it as "crocodile tears".

In particular, according to Shalva Papuashvili, the "fake pathetic" text from the embassy, ​​which "is trying to kill two leading Georgian media outlets", deserves only one assessment - "crocodile tears".

"When you read this fake pathetic text from the embassy, ​​which has been trying to kill two leading Georgian media outlets for two months, only one assessment appears - crocodile tears", - Papuashvili writes.

In connection with the World Press Freedom Day, the co-chairs of the Media Freedom Coalition - Great Britain and Finland - issued a joint opinion.

The statement is supported by the following Media Freedom Coalition member states: Austria; Belgium; Denmark; Estonia; Germany; Iceland; Ireland; Latvia; Lithuania; Luxembourg; the Netherlands; Norway; Poland; Sweden.

The statement discusses the threats to media freedom and states that "we see troubling trends in Georgia."
