Rasa Yuknevyachian - The Georgian government has done everything to convince people of different political views that the current situation in the country does not meet the criteria for EU candidacy

The Georgian government has done everything to convince people with completely different political views, political groups, pro-European political groups, that the current situation in the country does not meet any of the criteria for EU candidacy, - MEP Rasa Jukneviciene said at the meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, where the report on Georgia was adopted.

"I would like to thank all the rapporteurs for their incredible unity in preparing this document. It seems that the Georgian government has done everything to convince people with completely different political views, political groups, pro-European political groups, that the current situation in the country does not meet any of the criteria for EU candidacy," - noted the MEP.

According to her, she believes in the European perspective of Georgia and the Georgian people.

“On the other hand, we are adopting this report against the backdrop of a special forum in Yerevan. I think every pro-Western Georgian is happy that the EU perspective in the South Caucasus is alive, although I understand their – Georgians’ – disappointment that Tbilisi has been left out. At this stage, I believe in the European perspective of Georgia and the Georgian people,” the MEP noted.

The European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted a report on Georgia. The annual report on Georgia was supported by 53 MEPs, while 14 voted against it.
