The fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, says she will appeal to the European Union Ambassador and the EU Commissioner for Health to provide financial assistance to parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
As Zurabishvili says on her Facebook page, she will also appeal to the US Chargé d’Affaires to refer the matter to the US State Department.
“This is a concern for all of us. We all need to think about what can be done. I decided to address the EU Ambassador and the EU Commissioner for Health. I listened very carefully to their statements that until this government changes its course, nothing will progress. On the other hand, the EU supports our society, which is still fighting and has repeatedly demonstrated its pro-Europeanism. Perhaps the necessary funds will be found to help the parents. The day after tomorrow is May 9 - Europe Day, and on Europe Day, my representatives will deliver a letter to the EU Ambassador, in which I request that assistance be allocated to the parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. I very much hope that it will not remain unanswered, because this is an issue that will be symbolic for the entire society, that the EU is still with us today.
"At the same time, with the same letter, I am addressing the US Chargé d’Affaires to convey the same request to the Department of State, so that Americans, who have also been by our side in the fight against many diseases, extend a helping hand to us once again," Salome Zurabishvili said.
