Shalva Papuashvili on the arrest of 5 riot police officers - There was a problem with identification, when the Prosecutor's Office firmly knew that it had evidence against specific individuals, it made the appropriate decision - no one is going to cover up anyone

The arrest of the riot police officers has nothing to do with the journalistic product. I saw the statement of the Prosecutor's Office, which also said that the person mentioned in one of the media reports is not among the arrested people, so this has nothing to do with it, - the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists.

According to Papuashvili, the investigation had not detained anyone in the above cases because there were problems with identification and evidence.

"The Prosecutor's Office worked on this issue and has repeatedly told us that there was a problem with identification, there was a problem with evidence, and ultimately, when the prosecutor's office firmly believed that it had evidence against specific individuals, it made the appropriate decision and today we saw the appropriate steps, so exactly what we were talking about is happening - no one is going to cover up for anyone. The serious footage that we all saw together in those days and at that moment during the Prime Minister's speeches, when he was also addressing the media, was not only condemned at that moment, but was also a call to law enforcement officers to be extremely careful and not to give in to any provocations, not to use excessive force, which, among other things, stabilized the situation at that time.

On the other hand, we see that there is an attempt to cover up the abusers. The verdict on October 4 is a test for the European Union, that now at least, after seven months, we will see how much the European Union really wants to refuse violence, incitement to crime. This will be reflected in the assessments. It is a court document, so we are waiting for the EU Ambassador's comment on this and maybe now he will condemn the violence," Papuashvili noted.

He also spoke about the events that took place near the Atoneli residence on October 4, saying that "this is the EU Day of Violence" and the "test of Europeanness" for the EU Ambassador.

"October 4th is the day of EU violence, when they tried to overthrow the government with European flags, when 25 police officers were injured, which no ambassador has visited and no one has expressed concern that the police officers were injured by a mob incited by the European Commission's press secretary. This is a test of Europeanism for the EU Ambassador, let's see if he will pass this test," Papuashvili said.
