Finnish Foreign Minister: The Georgian people deserve a future based on freedom - they have chosen this themselves, but unfortunately the current government does not represent it

“The Georgian people deserve a future based on freedom,” Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said in Brussels ahead of the meeting of EU foreign ministers, responding to a question from “Euroscope.”

“Since 2008, parts of Georgia’s territory have been occupied by Russia - this has been the case for almost 20 years. Of course, the Georgian people deserve a future based on freedom. This is what they themselves have chosen, but unfortunately the current government does not represent this. We support the Georgian people and hope there is a future, and let us engage together so that in the near future the Georgian government works more actively for the freedom of its own people, while also demonstrating that Georgia is an independent and sovereign country that does not want Russia’s presence on its territory,” the Finnish Foreign Minister stated.
