Our meetings in the Italian Senate with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Senate and the Head of the Friendship Group in the Senate have ended. During these meetings, we discussed Georgia-Italy bilateral relations and the parliamentary dimension. Among them, the exchange of visits and further deepening of parliamentary cooperation, said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Italy with a delegation.
According to Nikoloz Samkharadze, the main topic of discussion during the meeting with the Italian side was security issues, the ongoing wars in the region and the issue of occupation.
According to him, the Italian side supports and will continue to support Georgia's European integration, according to which Georgia is a very important partner for them.
"Of course, the main topic of our conversation was security issues, the events taking place in our region, both the occupation issue, as well as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the developments around Iran, and how all this affects our region. We also talked about Georgia's very important role for Europe, including in ensuring Italy's energy security. We also talked about the problems of Georgia-EU relations. We asked the Italian side to engage more actively with Brussels in order to restore the dialogue between Georgia and the EU. The Italian side stated that they support Georgia's European integration. They also noted that Georgia is a very important partner for them, therefore, they support and will continue to support a sincere, open dialogue between Georgia and the EU in every way, including on critical issues and issues of mutual interest. Therefore, I think that this meeting was quite fruitful and successful. Our visit continues and we will have several more meetings with the Italian side in the parliament," said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
