On May 17, in connection with Family Purity Day, a procession will be held from Rustaveli Avenue to the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba), which will result in temporary traffic restrictions on several streets in Tbilisi. The information is released by the Tbilisi City Hall.
According to the statement, traffic will be gradually restored after the procession ends.
“The procession will begin at 11:00 from the area near Kashueti Church. From 08:00 to 14:00, vehicle movement will be restricted on Gia Chanturia Street, on the road section from the Rustaveli Avenue intersection to Freedom Square, as well as on Baratashvili Bridge and from the Baratashvili ascent to Avlabari Square.
Access from Rustaveli Avenue to other streets of Mtatsminda will be possible via Tarkhnishvili, Chovelidze, and Zandukeli streets, and then through Barnovi, Gogebashvili, Makashvili, and K. Kakabadze streets. Access to Melikishvili Avenue and the area around Rustaveli Metro Station will be possible via Griboedov, Makashvili, Barnovi, Zandukeli, and Shanidze streets.
Vehicles moving from the Rustaveli Metro Station area toward Freedom Square will be able to travel along Rustaveli Avenue up to the intersection with Chanturia Street, from where, by turning left, they will connect to the right bank of the Mtkvari River via Chanturia and Soliko Virsaladze streets.
During restrictions on Freedom Square, vehicle movement will be allowed up to the ramp near Baratashvili Bridge and from Rustaveli Avenue side up to Chanturia Street. Movement will be restricted from Kote Abkhazi and Shalva Dadiani streets toward Freedom Square.
Traffic on Rustaveli Avenue will be allowed up to Chanturia Street. Movement will also be restricted on L. Ukrainka, A. Giorgadze, Z. Chichinadze, April 9, A. Purtseladze, and L. Gudiashvili streets.
From Freedom Square, the procession will continue toward the Holy Trinity Cathedral, during which traffic will be sequentially restricted on Baratashvili Bridge and from the Baratashvili ascent to Avlabari Square.
During the restriction on Baratashvili Street, vehicles will be able to move toward Freedom Square via the right bank of the Mtkvari River and Kote Abkhazi Street, while vehicles heading toward Avlabari will use the Dry Bridge, Kosta Khetagurov Street, and the left bank of the Mtkvari River.
During the closure of Avlabari Square, vehicles moving from Queen Ketevan Avenue will connect to the left bank of the Mtkvari River via Bochormi and Yalbuzi streets, while vehicles heading toward Queen Ketevan Avenue, after turning on Baratashvili Street, will use Baratashvili Bridge to reach the left bank of the Mtkvari River, then continue via Yalbuzi and Bochormi streets toward Queen Ketevan Avenue and Avlabari Square.
Traffic will be gradually restored after the procession ends,” the statement reads.
