We must confront hatred in order for our society to unite. The unity of society is a task of national importance for us. This requires appropriate mechanisms, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists while commenting on the initiative to create a special department within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will systemically monitor hate speech and aggressive communication in the public space.
According to him, the establishment of a special department within the Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure the state's effective response to any attempt to sow hatred.
"We are observing recent events, how events in recent years are developing in our country. We all see that there is an attempt to artificially impose polarization in our country, and this attempt is largely successful. Unfortunately, hatred is being sown. This is not only a problem in Georgia, we see such tendencies in various countries, where, based on pseudo-liberal ideology, they are trying to sow hatred in society as much as possible. We must, of course, oppose this. This is a task of national importance. We must oppose hatred in order for our society to unite. The unity of society is a task of national importance for us. This requires appropriate mechanisms. You know that legislation has been enacted that opposes hate speech and the sowing of hatred, however, along with legislation, effective enforcement mechanisms are also needed, and this is precisely what the establishment of a special department in the Ministry of Internal Affairs serves, which will control the relevant processes and ensure an effective response from the state," Kobakhidze said.
For information, a special department will be established in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the main function of which will be the systemic monitoring of hate speech, offensive campaigns and aggressive communication in public space and the appropriate legal response.
The relevant decision was announced by Mamuka Mdinaradze, State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Structures, at the briefing held at the Government Administration.
