“Even under conditions where Murtaz has a 7-year conviction, they still did not dare to issue an acquittal in such an absurd case as we had today. This is unfortunate and this is an unlawful decision and verdict,” said Maia Mumladze, lawyer of opposition politician and former Prosecutor General Murtaz Zodelava.
According to her, Judge Irakli Khuskivadze’s decision is illegal.
“Even under conditions where Murtaz has a 7-year conviction, they did not dare to issue an acquittal in such an absurd case as we had today. This is unfortunate, and this is an unlawful decision and verdict.
It seems they are afraid of setting a precedent of an acquittal,” said Maia Mumladze.
The Chairman of the Political Council of the “United National Movement,” Levan Khabeishvili, and former Prosecutor General Murtaz Zodelava were found guilty by the court. The decision was made by Judge Irakli Khuskivadze. Khabeishvili was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison, while Zodelava received 9 months.
