[The German ambassador] spoke about the “deep state” in his characteristic sarcastic tone – “Well, where is he? I looked in the room and he wasn’t there. I went to the bathroom and he wasn’t there.” He is, in fact, mocking us Georgians, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said in reference to German Ambassador Peter Fischer.
Papuashvili believes that the diplomat, with his attitude towards the “deep state,” is mocking not only Georgians, but also US President Trump and former British Prime Minister Liz Truss. In Papuashvili’s opinion, “this is a kamikaze-level act.”
"Mr. Peter will remain in the minds of the Georgian public as the German ambassador who took photos in the background of a fascist slogan and called the people who attacked a female MP with her minor child with a fascist slogan the future of Georgia. This is how he will remain in the memory of the Georgian public, and this is the most regrettable thing in Georgian-German relations that this person destroyed a 30-year friendship in three years and brought it to the point that today the German representative in Georgia is identified as a promoter, instigator and supporter of violence, disinformation, and propaganda. This is a regrettable event. He also spoke about the "deep state" in his characteristic sarcastic tone, "Well, where is it? I looked in the room and it wasn't there. I went to the bathroom and I didn't find it there," he is actually mocking us Georgians, but I will emphasize one thing, he is simultaneously mocking the Americans when he says that “deep state” is some kind of fiction, he mocks US President Trump, he can also talk to the US embassy about it. He mocks former British Prime Minister Liz Truss, who spoke about the “deep state” in Britain, in principle, he mocks everyone with this arrogant tone, which is very sad that we see such a snide attitude towards other peoples from a German person. His attitude towards Georgians is understandable, we are used to it and we see it, but at the same time, he mocks Americans, British and I don’t know, it turns out that he is the only one in this country who has some claim to the complete truth.
In addition to causing great damage to Georgian-German relations, he has generally damaged the institution of the embassy and has equated in the eyes of Georgians a foreign ambassador with a guest inciting violence, lies, propaganda, ,” Papuashvili said.
He believes that Peter Fischer has damaged the entire embassy in Georgia.
“As he himself said, he will sit warmly in his chair and observe Georgia from there. The damage he has caused not only to Georgian-German relations, but also to the embassy, ββββhe has damaged the institution of a foreign ambassador and has imprinted in the eyes of Georgians for a long time that a foreign ambassador can be a bearer of harmful interests and goals towards your country. In this way, he has damaged the entire embassy in Georgia and I would think about it," Papuashvili said.
In addition, Papuashvili pointed out to the German ambassador that the capital of the European Union is in Brussels, not Berlin, and what is needed to join the European Union, the EU ambassador himself will discuss this somehow.
“The capital of the European Union is in Brussels, not in Berlin. I don’t know what Mr. Peter has, if he thinks that Berlin is the capital of Europe, these ideas are from a different era. The capital of the European Union is in Brussels. Brussels has its own ambassador and the EU ambassador, he will somehow talk about what is needed to join the EU and what is not. The German ambassador should stay in the square that he has allocated as a representative of Germany and not take it upon himself to speak on behalf of Europe, the EU,” Papuashvili says.
In addition, according to Papuashvili, when Peter Fischer was recalled to Germany, they received a promise from the German Foreign Ministry that the ambassador would return, “but there would be no more aggressive rhetoric and attacks that we were used to from him. According to Papuashvili, unfortunately, this condition was also violated.
According to Papuashvili, “It is incomprehensible where this person gets these attitudes, claims and such an ego that we have not satisfied anyone and everyone wants to laugh at us, to talk down to us.” According to Papuashvili, the form in which Fischer addresses the issue of the “deep state” is absolutely incomprehensible.
“There is only one explanation for all this - this is a kamikaze-level action in order to harm himself and ultimately harm the Georgian-German, or Georgian-European Union [relations],” Papuashvili states.
