President of the Republic of Italy Sergio Mattarella congratulates President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili on Independence Day. The text of the congratulatory message was disseminated by the President’s Administration.

In his congratulatory message, Sergio Mattarella notes that despite the difficult geopolitical situation, Tbilisi and Rome do not refuse to promote new opportunities for cooperation.

“Today, when the friendly Georgian people celebrate the independence of the country, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Italian Republic.

Despite the difficult geopolitical situation, which continues to be aggravated by the consequences of the conflict ongoing in Ukraine and numerous crisis centers in the regions near our borders, Tbilisi and Rome do not refuse to promote new opportunities for cooperation, in the spirit of long-lasting and fruitful friendship.

Based on these prerequisites, Italy continues to closely follow Georgia's path towards the European Union and hopes that this path will continue with a new and firm impetus, based on constructive interaction and, above all, on full commitment to the foundations of European integration and democratic values.
