[The statement of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs] is simply an attempt to somehow justify the terrible violence that we saw, - this is how Revaz Revazishvili, the lawyer of Papuna Lotsulashvili and Lasha Abisonashvili, the victims of the violence committed by the police, responds to the statement of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze.­

The lawyer categorically excludes Darakhvelidze's statement that the victim injured the policeman with a stone.

"It is impossible that such a thing happened. I repeat once again, talking about one of my clients committing a certain type of violence can only serve one purpose, to somehow justify the unjustified cruelty that the police officers showed.

We do not know the full materials of the case, because we have not yet been recognized as victims, when this happens, we will have full information. We do not have information regarding the stone, due to the lack of access to the case materials. However, I can tell you one thing with certainty, talking about the fact that one of my clients committed violence against police officers with stones or in any other form is simply a fabrication that serves only one purpose, to find some kind of justification for the unjustified cruelty that the police officers showed.

We cannot know whether a person is undergoing treatment or not, because it is personal information. However, whoever is undergoing treatment, formally someone may be placed in a medical institution, we do not exclude this, but I want to assure you that this is similar to the scenario where a police officer is a victim of violence," Revazishvili said.

For information, in Gori, in the so-called Kombinati settlement, law enforcement officers physically assaulted two people - Papuna Lotsulashvili and his friend.

6 law enforcement officers have been detained in connection with the incident. They are charged under Article 333, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code, which implies abuse of official authority, committed with violence. The aforementioned act is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years. In addition, an investigation has been initiated against Papuna Lotsulashvili under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which implies violence against a police officer.
