“There is currently no acute neurological disorder in the patient that would indicate a life-threatening condition. The reason for keeping the patient under observation is solely further monitoring,” said Levan Ratiani when speaking to journalists about the condition of Papuna Lotsulashvili, who was injured in Gori following alleged police violence.

He noted that if the clinical condition remains stable and no complaints are recorded, the patient will be discharged within 72 hours.

“The patient was admitted today at 00:26 by the emergency medical service. He was in the emergency department. All protocol-required examinations were conducted, including a brain CT scan. The CT scan did not reveal any focal lesions. At this stage, the patient’s condition is stable. All biochemical tests have been performed, as well as consultations with specialists from all relevant fields. A neurology board meeting was held today.

At this stage, no acute neurological disorder that would indicate a life-threatening condition has been identified. The patient was offered hospitalization and observation for monitoring purposes. He is currently in the neurology department. The only reason for his stay is further monitoring, as he reported an episode of loss of consciousness and also nausea. Until now, at our clinic, there has been no vomiting or nausea, but due to this history, he is being kept for observation in the neurology department.

I repeat, the patient was brought in by the emergency medical service. We are aware of his medical history. Based on the examinations performed, he currently has no life-threatening condition. He remains in the neurology department for further monitoring and dynamic observation.

If his clinical condition remains stable and no complaints or relevant clinical symptoms appear, he will be discharged within 72 hours with recommendations,” Ratiani stated.

For context, in Gori’s so-called Kombinati settlement, law enforcement officers physically assaulted two individuals — Papuna Lotsulashvili and his friend. Six law enforcement officers have been detained in connection with the incident. They are charged under Article 333, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code, which concerns abuse of official authority committed with violence and carries a penalty of 5 to 8 years in prison.

An investigation has also been launched against Lotsulashvili under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, concerning violence against a police officer.
