Papuna Lotsulashvili, who was physically assaulted by law enforcement officers in Gori, has issued a statement on social media.

His position is being shared on Facebook by his brother.

According to the letter, what happened was “terrible,” but the main point is that the police officers “have already been punished today.”

In the statement, Lotsulashvili thanks the public for their support and calls on certain groups not to use his case for political or personal interests.

“Hello everyone. Since my brother does not have social media, I am sharing his thoughts.

Thank you very much to everyone who expressed sincere support for me.

What happened was terrible. The main thing is that these people have already been punished today.

I want to address those who are trying to use this incident for their own benefit and visibility - please do not use my situation for your advantage.

Unfortunately, many people are making various political statements on my behalf. Please, no one should speak on my behalf.

And this incident, what happened, will also serve in the future as an example that no one will go unpunished for such actions,” the statement reads.

Six police officers accused of violence against Papuna Lotsulashvili and Lasha Abisonashvili - Alexi Badalov, Giorgi Tskrialashvili, Saba Tsavelidze, Ivane Misireli, Vladimir Goderdzishvili, and Beso Malatsidze - have been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.

For reference, in Gori, in the so-called “Kombinati” settlement, law enforcement officers physically assaulted two individuals - Papuna Lotsulashvili and his friend.

Six officers have been detained. They are charged under Article 333(3)(b) of the Criminal Code, which concerns abuse of official authority committed with violence and carries a penalty of 5 to 8 years in prison.

At the same time, an investigation has also been launched against Papuna Lotsulashvili under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which concerns violence against a police officer.
