Pre-trial detention has been ordered for Gulbaat Rtskhiladze, who was arrested on charges of espionage.
The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Lela Maridashvili.
The prosecutor's office requested the use of the most severe preventive measure of detention against Rtskhiladze, while the defense requested that he be released without any preventive measure. In addition, the defense also offered him a bail of 30,000 GEL as an alternative.
For information, Gulbaat Rtskhiladze was arrested by the State Security Service on May 30 on charges of espionage.
He was charged under Part 1 of Article 314 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to espionage. The aforementioned act is punishable by up to 12 years of imprisonment.
The detainee is accused of having ties to the special services of two foreign countries. In particular, according to the investigation, the accused simultaneously cooperated with the special services of two foreign states and carried out parallel intelligence activities.
