Salome Zurabishvili - What has happened in the last few years is a seizure of democracy and the state - now we have reached the point where we must either save ourselves or submit to dictatorship

What has happened in Georgia in the last few years is a seizure of democracy and the state, - the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, stated in her speech at the Oslo Freedom Forum.

“Today we are probably going through the most difficult period. Yesterday Georgia was a beacon of democracy. It was a leader country among neighboring countries in terms of European integration. It was a model of reforms and transformation. Despite the Russian aggression in 2008, despite the occupation of 20% of its territory, Georgia was able to maintain its sovereignty. But very quickly, what has happened in the last few years is the seizure of democracy and the state. This is the alienation and subjugation of the population. Now we have reached the point where we must either save ourselves or submit to a dictatorship. Unfortunately, today this is a common story that we see in many countries,” Salome Zurabishvili said.

According to her, “Georgia is the other side of the coin, on one side of which Ukraine is fighting with weapons.”

"We oppose the silent seizure of the state through hybrid warfare methods. Including through the use of democratic institutions, elections, social networks, and now artificial intelligence. All of this is not limited to geographical borders," Salome Zurabishvili noted.
